C. Mel Wilcox, MD, MSPH, GI/Hepatology Division Director, served as senior author for the New England Journal of Medicine review article “Acute Pancreatitis” in the November 2016 issue. The paper summarizes recent changes in the management of acute pancreatitis,
encompassing fluid resuscitation, antibiotic use, nutritional support, and treatment of necrosis, and addresses common misunderstandings and areas of controversy.
Wilcox has been active on editorial boards for various journals throughout his medical career, which includes appointments as Editor to Clinical Gastroenterology and Hepatology and Associate Editor of American Journal of Medicine. His current clinical research interest focuses on the role of endoscopic therapy in the treatment of pancreaticobiliary diseases.
