  • Meet 1st Thursdays of the month at noon (12:00-1:30pm) in MT 634 and via Video Conference
  • Start March 2013 and alternate months between the 2 groups

Secondary Data Analysis Workshop (SDAW)

Invited: HDRTP alumni and year 2 current scholars (connect via VC)
Leader: Rob Weech-Maldonado, PhD
Meets every other month for an overview of secondary data sets available for analysis
Goals:

  • Present scholars with an overview of dataset and data elements
  • Provide examples of research questions that can be addressed with dataset
  • Include participation of junior investigators that have used data (if possible)
  • Discuss protocol for access to data and resources for data management/analysis
Topics and speakers:

  • REGARDS – Virginia Howard, PhD (March 7)
  • Medicare – Meredith Kilgore, PhD (May 2)
  • Bioethical issues with secondary data analyses (Sept. 5)
  • Study of Aging – Richard Allman, MD and Patricia Sawyer, PhD (Nov. 7)
  • The workshop on NHANES data by George Rust, MD, 1.5-2-day face-to-face (F2F) at Morehouse (to be scheduled).

Scientific Methods Workgroup (SMW)

Invited: HDRTP alumni and year 2 current scholars (connect via VC)
Proposed Leader: Michael Mugavero, PhD
Meets every other month to review science methods in current research plans, grants, and/or publications
Goals:

  • One or two young (junior) investigators scheduled to present latest work for feedback
  • Focus on scientific methods of current plans
  • Group provides critical feedback in an informed session
