Immunology Education at UAB focuses on training highly motivated predoctoral students, and PhD and MD graduates, in the fields of basic, translational and clinical immunology. Our trainees are committed to research and academic medicine. Therefore, rigorous training in research methods coupled with a strong appreciation for interdisciplinary challenges and opportunities is crucial to their development. Long-standing and highly effective collaborations of the Developmental Immunology Group, Clinical Immunology and Rheumatology, the Comprehensive Arthritis, Musculoskeletal and Autoimmunity Center, the Mucosal Immunology Group, and the Host Defense Group have immensely contributed to the success of this endeavor. Many other UAB research groups, departments, and centers contribute faculty and resources to immunology training at UAB. The cornerstones of immunology education at UAB are outstanding mentorship, excellent research facilities, academic enrichment, and independent research experiences.
