The Department of Molecular Microbiology and Immunology (MMI) at Oregon Health & Science University (OHSU) invites applications from early-stage to mid-level investigators for a tenure-track faculty position. We seek outstanding candidates with a Ph.D., M.D. or M.D./Ph.D. degree and appropriate postdoctoral experience who have demonstrated the ability to develop a high-quality independent research program distinguished by exceptional originality and productivity. Areas of research include, but are not limited to, host-pathogen interactions, innate/adaptive immunity and molecular pathogenesis. Candidates whose research programs would synergize with and/or complement ongoing research programs within the department and greater OHSU community are particularly encouraged to apply. The successful candidate will be expected to establish and sustain an extramurally funded, independent research program and contribute to the educational mission of the Department and University service. Clinically-qualified applicants will be considered for a joint appointment in an appropriate clinical department. The position package includes salary support, laboratory equipment, excellent laboratory space on the Marquam Hill Campus, access to Departmental BSL3/ABSL suites and the services of several outstanding core facilities.
The MMI department includes a collegial group of interactive scientists whose research focuses on viral, bacterial and protozoan pathogens, the immune system that responds to and controls these pathogens, and inflammation. Inter- and intra-departmental collaborations among faculty are a strength of OHSU. Located in central Portland, the MMI Department maintains a strong relationship with the Vaccine and Gene Therapy Institute, the Oregon National Primate Research Center, the VA Portland Health Care System and Providence Cancer Research Center. The OHSU research environment is enhanced by the recent creation of the Center for Spatial Systems Biomedicine, the Knight Cardiovascular Center, the Knight Cancer Center and the Bob and Charlee Moore Institute for Nutrition & Wellness.
