Kyle Wood, M.D., assistant professor in the Department of Urology, is the latest recipient of Tolwani Innovation Fund to support the development of a drug to prevent kidney stone disease.

Ashita Tolwani, M.D., professor in the Division of Nephrology, established the Tolwani Innovation Fund to support investigators and researchers who create products and solutions to help with kidney-related diseases.

Tolwani established the fund using royalties from an anticoagulant solution she developed at UAB in 2004. After patenting the solution in 2011, an international pharmaceutical company bought the product and continues to distribute it around the world.

Tolwani wanted to establish the fund to give back to UAB where she was encouraged and supported to find new solutions to kidney-related problems.
