James J. Cimino, M.D., director of the UAB Informatics Institute and Endowed Professor in Informatics, has been elected to the International Academy of Health Sciences Informatics, recently established by the International Medical Informatics Association.
Cimino is one of 120 founding members of the academy from 38 countries worldwide. A national leader in the burgeoning field of biomedical informatics, Cimino joined UAB to lead the Informatics Institute in 2015. He’s also co-director of the UAB Center for Clinical and Translational Science.
The International Medical Informatics Association is the world body for health and biomedical informatics, providing leadership and expertise to the multidisciplinary, health focused community and to policy makers, to enable the transformation of healthcare in accord with the world-wide vision of improving the health of the world population.
