Equal Access Birmingham (EAB) will host its sixth annual Heart + Sole 5K run at Crestline Elementary School Aug. 24 to raise funds for the School of Medicine’s free health care clinic, which provides health care to underserved and uninsured populations in Birmingham and the greater Birmingham area.
This year’s race will implement chip timing so that participants can track their time through Trak Shak. Registration for the race is $27 until Aug. 12, when it will jump to $32. On the morning of the race, registration will be $40. To register for the 2019 Heart + Sole 5K, click here.
Different School of Medicine departments will have teams in the race. First-year and second-year medical students can join a team with their Learning Communities.
The race will begin at 8 a.m. at 3773 W Jackson Blvd, Mountain Brook, AL 35213. Packet pick-up and day-of registration will be at Crestline Elementary from 6:45-7:30 a.m.
For those who don’t want to run but still want to support EAB, there is a sleep-in option to receive a packet with a T-shirt but not run. To donate directly to EAB, click here.
EAB was created in 2005 to improve health care access for underserved populations in the Birmingham area and provide UAB medical students with service learning experiences. Student volunteers see approximately 400 patients per year at the EAB Clinic, which opened in downtown Birmingham in November 2012. To learn more about EAB, visit their website.
