The commencement ceremony for the School of Medicine at the University of Alabama at Birmingham is Saturday, May 22 in Bartow Arena, 617 13th St. South. Doors open at noon, and the ceremony begins at 1 p.m.
To comply with capacity limits, only those guests on the lists submitted by students in advance will be allowed to enter the arena. Commencement will be streamed live online at go.uab.edu/SOMCommencement.
Masks will be required to be worn by everyone while in the arena, regardless of vaccination status.
Congresswoman Terri A. Sewell, who represents Alabama’s 7th Congressional District, will be the guest speaker. She is one of the first women elected to Congress from Alabama in her own right and is the first black woman to ever serve in the Alabama Congressional delegation. She’s in her sixth term representing Alabama.
A special military ceremony will begin for invited guests at 10 a.m. for students entering the Armed Forces. The ceremony will be held inside Lecture Room A in Volker Hall, by invitation only.
