Rachael Lee, M.D., MSPH, assistant professor in the Division of Infectious Diseases, is the junior faculty winner of the 2021 Dean’s Excellence Award in Service. She serves as the Healthcare Epidemiologist for the UAB Health System.
From the time Lee was a clinical fellow in 2014, she has made significant contributions to UAB’s emergency management efforts. Specifically, she began by shouldering work in developing our Ebola response. As a junior faculty member, Lee continued to distinguish herself by working to enhance UAB’s antibiotic stewardship programs, developing a highly respected expertise toward treating our patients appropriately with these powerful medications.
This year, Lee has brilliantly and devotedly served in our Hospital Incident Command structure during our sustained COVID-19 response. She worked as a part of the team to help clarify and respond to rapidly changing information as we learned about the virus. She became a spokesperson for infection prevention across the Health System, campus, and community who became a trusted resource for safety. And she tirelessly worked offer clear and objective guidance on vitally important decisions and training regarding personal protection equipment, employee health infection reporting processes, as well as providing direct patient care.
Lee joined the UAB Division of Infectious Diseases at UAB in 2016 and is currently an assistant professor. She earned her medical doctorate at UAB in 2010.
