Dawn Bulgarella, chief financial officer of the UAB Health System, has been selected to Leadership Alabama’s Class XXXI for the year 2021-2022. Class XXXI is Leadership Alabama’s largest class to date. Along with 68 other members, Bulgarella is the only class member representing UAB.
Leadership Alabama was founded in 1990 with the mission to understand and discuss key challenges in Alabama with the state’s top industry leaders while inventing impactful solutions in social, economic, and governmental areas. Examples of challenges discussed by Leadership Alabama’s current class will include business and economic workforce development, quality education, quality of life, social justice, and ecosystem and coastal environments.
“I am honored to represent UAB Medicine in this year’s Leadership Alabama class,” said Bulgarella. “Getting an improved understanding about the people, problems, and economic opportunities in Alabama will enable me to be a better leader for UAB Medicine.”
Bulgarella has served in various roles at UAB since 1993, when she joined the University of Alabama Health Services Foundation. She has served in the Departments of Prime Care, Anesthesiology, and Emergency Medicine. With nearly three decades of leadership and expertise, she has served in dual positions of senior associate dean for Heersink School of Medicine Administration and Finance and chief financial officer of UAB Health System.
Beginning Jan. 1, 2022, Bulgarella will assume the role of senior operational leader and president of the UAB Health System and retain her role as CFO of UAB Health System and the UAB/Ascension St. Vincent’s Alliance.
In addition to her selection to Leadership Alabama, Bulgarella was recently named to the Birmingham Business Journal’s list of 2021 Top Birmingham Women.
