Rubin Pillay, M.D., Ph.D.Rubin Pillay, M.D., Ph.D., executive director of the UAB Marnix E. Heersink Institute for Biomedical Innovation, spoke on the concept of Healthcare 3.0 at a lunch and learn held by the institute on Feb. 9, 2023.
In addition to his position as executive director of the institute, Pillay is a professor of healthcare innovation and entrepreneurship at the Collat School of Business, professor in the Department of Medicine, assistant dean for global health innovation for the Heersink School of Medicine, and chief innovation officer for the UAB Health System.
"I chose the topic [Healthcare 3.0 - Our Quest for $0 Healthcare] to launch the Lunch and Learn series because this is front and center to what we actually want to achieve within the Heersink Institute for Biomedical Innovation," said Pillay as he began the presentation.
After recognizing that $0 healthcare may seem impossible, he explained how the technological advancements due to exponential growth, prosumerism, platforms, outsurance, and the cure paradox can lead to a future of affordable health care.
