The University of Alabama at Birmingham Department of Neurosurgery Division of Pediatric Neurosurgery Fellow Michael Feldman, M.D., presented at the 2023 Joint Pediatric Section Annual Meeting in Oklahoma City, Oklahoma, on Thursday, Nov. 30, 2023.During his presentation, "Effect of ETV on Risk of Subsequent Shunt Failure," Feldman shared data collected from the 14 hospitals across the United States and Canada that make up the Hydrocephalus Clinical Research Network.
By analyzing this data set, Feldman concluded that performing an endoscopic third ventriculostomy (ETV) prior to placing a ventriculoperitoneal shunt (VPS) improved the likelihood of prolonged VPS survival in children older than 30 days.
