The University of Alabama at Birmingham Department of Neurosurgery Professor and Division of Pediatric Neurosurgery Director Jeffrey Blount, M.D., MPH, and Professor James Johnston, M.D., MPH, recently presented at the World Federation of Neurosurgical Societies’ 18th World Congress of Neurosurgery as invited faculty lecturers. On Thursday, Dec. 7, 2023, Blount delivered his talk, “Advocacy toward implementation of WHA 76.19- neurosurgical steps moving forward.” Before attending the World Congress in Cape Town, South Africa, Blount also presented on the WHA resolution 76.19 at the 2023 Joint Pediatric Section Annual Meeting in Oklahoma City, Oklahoma.
While attending the World Congress, Johnston served as chair of both the Global Neurosurgery I and Special Breakaways session. On Wednesday, Dec. 6, 2023, he delivered his presentations, “How technology and innovation can accelerate neurosurgical training and service delivery,” and, “Development of a modular toolkit wiki for effective, ethical and equitable global neurosurgery education and collaboration.”
