service awards 2025 articleFour members of the UAB Department of Neurology will be honored among 300 UAB employees for 20-plus years of service at a reception on April 8 at Hill Student Center: Randall L. Foster (35 years), Martina Bebin, M.D., MPA (30 years), Nita A. Limdi, Pharm.D., Ph.D., MSPH (30 years), and L. Burt Nabors, M.D. (25 years).

Foster, Bebin, Limdi, and Nabors share reflections on their time spent at UAB and with the Department of Neurology.

35 Years

Randall Foster, Office Service Spec III

"Sometimes I can't believe 35 years have passed. I've had other jobs, but none compared to this one. I have met and worked with some wonderful people. My job has never been boring because something new happens every day.  In my errands around the hospital and campus, I see so many people who may not know my name but will comment, 'You've been here a long time, I see you everywhere.' I just smile and say, 'Yep, that's what I do. I just keep traveling on.'"

30 Years

Martina Bebin, M.D., MPA

"Over the past 30 years at UAB and as a member of the neurology department since 2006, I am most proud and grateful for the development of the UAB Tuberous Sclerosis Clinic as a Center of Excellence. It would not have been possible without the support of Dr. David Standaert and Dr. Jerzy Szaflarski along with the collaborative spirit of the UAB faculty who provide excellent TSC care. Special thank you for the TSC Clinic nursing staff's keen awareness of the importance of coordination and access to care for this patient population."

Nita A. Limdi, Pharm.D., MSPH

"My career trajectory does not fit the traditional academic journey. I started by career at UAB Hospital as a clinical pharmacist in 1994 and still remember my first NIH submission (15 paper copies of the application FedEX’d) in 2002. The support of the leadership, staff, faculty, and colleagues and from UAB as an institution has made these 30 years fulfilling, enabling the creation of one of the leading pharmacogenomics/genomic medicine research programs in the country. Even when times were rough, our common mission fueled our extremely worthwhile and important work. I want to thank my team, Neurology leadership, and administrative staff, and faculty for their support over the years. Without you, my success and the success of the pharmacogenomics/ genomic medicine research program would not be possible."

25 Years

L. Burt Nabors, M.D.

“I have been here on faculty for 25 years but with the department for 29 as I was a neurology resident and then the first UAB fellow in neuro-oncology. I am very pleased with my decision to stay at UAB and with the department, although it really was not something we specifically decided; it just seems to have happened. It happened because I was with a great group of people to work with doing something extremely worthwhile and important. From my colleagues at the faculty level to all those who make it possible for UAB Neurology to provide some of the highest quality brain cancer care in the country. I will not list all but certainly all in the department, the division, the O’Neal Comprehensive Cancer Center, and all those in UAB Hospital and The Kirklin Clinic.”
