Several members from the UAB Department of Pathology participated in the annual Birmingham Kidney Walk and Celebration on April 5 at Samford University’s Track and Field Complex.
The Birmingham Kidney Walk is the Alabama Kidney Foundation’s premier fundraising event. Proceeds assist South Alabama’s kidney patients in need through the Foundation’s Financial Assistance Program. The Financial Assistance Program serves low-income dialysis patients by helping them with necessities, such as high Allison Redden (left) and Jennifer McConvilleutility bills, prescription medications and transportation to and from life-saving dialysis treatments.
In addition to several faculty and staff members who registered for the walk, staff members from UAB Pathology tabled the event alongside other vendors. The walk featured food, live music, door prizes and prizes for top fundraising teams and individuals.
“This year’s Birmingham Kidney Walk was a truly memorable and heartwarming experience,” said Jennifer McConville, Director, Fiscal Affairs. “Meeting survivors of kidney disease who shared their powerful stories, along with the (l-r) Drs. Huma Fatima, Silvio Litovsky and Andrea Kahncompassionate supporters, was inspiring- and the strong sense of community made the day even more special. It was a great day to support the Alabama Kidney Foundation, and I look forward to next year!”
