Tanecia Mitchell, Ph.D. headshotTanecia Mitchell, Ph.D., associate professor in the UAB Department of Urology, has been awarded the Division for Translational and Clinical Pharmacology Early Career Award by the American Society for Pharmacology and Experimental Therapeutics (ASPET).

This prestigious award recognizes early-career scientists for their outstanding contributions to translational and clinical pharmacology research.

“I am deeply honored to receive this award, which recognizes not just my work, but the collective efforts of my mentors, colleagues, research team, and trainees who have supported and inspired me throughout my research career,” Mitchell explained. “I am truly grateful for this acknowledgment and excited about the opportunities ahead.”

Mitchell’s research focuses on studying disorders that affect the kidney and identifying potential ways to improve the health and quality of life of individuals with kidney disease. As an awardee, Mitchell will attend the ASPET Annual Meeting in April 2025, where she will present her research and be formally recognized for her achievements.

She will discuss the role of immune signaling pathways in macrophages, which are key white blood cells responsible for removing foreign particles from the body, and how this may contribute to kidney stone formation. In addition, she will explain how pharmacological treatments can improve macrophage function during this process.

Mitchell’s recognition highlights her significant contributions to the field and her dedication to advancing translational and clinical pharmacology. Stay tuned for more updates as she prepares to share her research at the ASPET Annual Meeting in April 2025.
