Dr. Gianfranco Bianco holds a Ph.D. in Mechanical Engineering from the University of Calabria, Italy, where he specialized in digital imaging techniques for cultural heritage applications. His research interests span glaucoma, myopia, ocular biomechanics, and biomedical imaging. Dr. Bianco is currently a researcher at the University of Alabama at Birmingham (UAB), focusing on sclera-vitreous biomechanics and age-related ocular changes. He has published extensively on topics such as intraocular pressure measurements, scleral remodeling, and the mechanical characterization of soft tissues. Dr. Bianco's significant awards include an NIH-R21 grant for investigating vitreous degeneration in glaucoma and the UAB Visual Science Research Center pilot grant. His service includes peer-reviewing for high-impact journals and guest editing a special issue on optical methods in ocular biomechanics. With a background in experimental mechanics and optical imaging, Dr. Bianco continues to contribute valuable insights into the field of ophthalmology.
