The Department of Ophthalmology and Visual Sciences hosted its first-ever virtual Symposium in June. Eighty attendees joined us for virtual presentations by our residents and featured speakers – Sonal Tuli, M.D., M.Ed., Professor and Chair of the Department of Ophthalmology at the University of Florida; David Guyton, M.D., Zanvyl Krieer Professor in Ophthalmology at Wilmer Eye Institute; and Glenn J. Jaffe, M.D., Robert Machemer Professor of Ophthalmology, Vitreoretinal Faculty at Duke University Eye Center, and Chief of the Retina Division at Duke Reading Center.

Winners of the Best Resident Presentation Awards were:

• John Paul Luckett, M.D. (PGY – 3) – “Evaluating Ophthalmic Involvement in Candidemia Diagnosed by T2 vs Blood Culture”
• Jonathan Fuerst, M.D. (PGY – 4) – “Comparing PRP Techniques for the Initial Treatment of PDR: Peripheral PRP in the Operating Room vs Standard Clinic PRP”
