Paul D. Gamlin, Ph.D., professor in the Department of Ophthalmology at the UAB School of Medicine, has been named a Gold Fellow by the Association for Research in Vision and Ophthalmology.
Gamlin is one of 20 doctors recognized as 2021 ARVO Gold Fellows and one of two from UAB. Thomas T. Norton, Ph.D., emeritus professor of optometry and vision science has also been named a Gold Fellow. The fellowship recognizes current ARVO members for their accomplishments, leadership and contributions to the organization.
Dr. Gamlin’s research focuses on the visual system and eye movements in health and disease. He is currently investigating the neural pathways involved in coordinated movement of the eyes, and the non-image forming retinal pathways involved in circadian rhythms, light-evoked pupillary responses, sleep, migraine, and mood. He is also developing novel gene therapy techniques to treat individuals with inherited ocular or neurological diseases.
