The UAB Ophthalmology Residency Program is excited to welcome 5 Fellow and 10 new residents – five PY2 residents and five first-year residents, who are the first-ever class in the department’s new integrated program.
Poojitha Balakrishnan, MD, Veena Danthuluri, MD, and Scott McClure, MD, from the UAB Heersink School of Medicine, Caroline Besley, MD, from the Medical University of South Carolina College of Medicine, and Malcolm Kates, MD, from the University of Florida College of Medicine will join the residency program as the PGY-2 class.
Last year, it was announced that the department’s residency program was approved for an integrated year, meaning first-year residents would be able to join the department’s residency program for their intern year. Our first-year residency class consists of Udit Bhavsar, MD, from the University of Utah School of Medicine, Morghan Jameson, MD, from East Tennessee State Quillen College of Medicine, Mary Moses, MD, from Augusta University, Medical College of Georgia, William Poore, MD, from UAB’s Heersink School of Medicine, and John Stoffer, MD, from the University of Cincinnati College of Medicine. The department is also pleased to welcome five fellows. Beena Shah, MD, and Rachel Ellyn, MD, will be continuing their training as glaucoma fellows, and John Paul Luckett, MD, will train as an oculoplastics fellow after completing his residency in the department’s program. Alexandra Chaulk, MD, and Alex Wright, MD, will join as retina fellows at RCA, and Cole Richardson, DO, will train as a retina fellow at RSA.
