Constantine M. Burgan, M.D., received his BS in chemistry from Towson University in Towson, Maryland, followed by medical school at the University of Maryland School of Medicine. He completed his residency in diagnostic radiology at the Allegheny Health Network where he served as chief resident. Burgan completed a fellowship in Cross-Sectional Imaging at Johns Hopkins Hospital, then joined the faculty at Johns Hopkins as a body radiologist prior to joining UAB as faculty in abdominal imaging in 2017.

Burgan is the chief of ultrasound and body procedures across the UAB enterprise and has expertise in these areas as well as CT, MRI, and fluoroscopy. He sits on numerous clinical committees at UAB including the genitourinary and endocrine cancer management teams.

Burgan is the diagnostic radiology residency program director, a role he assumed after serving as assistant program director for two years. He created a procedure simulation curriculum at UAB which continues to be expanded upon today. He previously served as the abdominal imaging educational liaison and created the curriculum for the abdominal imaging section, as well as the tier leader for resident evaluations in the section. In the Heersink School of Medicine, he serves on the Dean’s Council for Graduate Medical Education and the Dean’s Excellence Awards review committee. He is dedicated to resident education and has been awarded numerous honors in this regard since becoming faculty at UAB. He has also participated in the Association of University Radiologists Faculty Development program and multiple visiting scholar/lectureship programs.

His research interests include resident education, ultrasound and interventional procedures including simulation as well as multi-institutional groups to improve outcomes and efficiency.
