Arts Week is a celebration of student and faculty creativity presented by the UAB College of Arts and Sciences. Arts Week events and performances will showcase students from the departments of Art and Art History, English, History, Music, and Theatre. Students, faculty, staff, alumni and the community are invited to experience the arts on campus and in the community with this curated list of performances.

“Holding Hands with the Sky”
An exhibition of works by artist Charlotte Taylor, presented by the UAB Department of Art and Art History in the 501 Building ArtLab gallery space, 501 12th St. South. Free.

Sixth annual PRISM Concert
PRISM offers audiences a sampler of the music being made by the UAB Department of Music’s renowned faculty and skilled students. This all-department concert features faculty and student solo and ensemble performances ranging from classical to gospel, jazz to computer music and everything in between. Featuring soloists, ensembles, choirs and bands. 7 p.m. in UAB’s Alys Stephens Performing Arts Center, 1200 10th Ave. South. Tickets are $25, $15 for UAB employees and free for all students with ID. Mersmann Awards and Reading, presented by the Creative Writing Program
Given in honor of Jim Mersmann, Ph.D., a professor emeritus in the Department of English known for his fantastic reading style, this award recognizes marvelous readings of poetry, with first- and second-place prizes awarded for best original poem and best-read poem by another poet. 4:30 p.m., University Hall, 1402 10th Ave. South. April 4-19
Disney’s “Freaky Friday”
Presented in collaboration by Theatre UAB and Red Mountain Theatre with a cast featuring more than 20 UAB students, three faculty and an alumnus. Based on a novel by Mary Rodgers and the hit Disney film: An overworked mother and her teenage daughter magically swap bodies and have just one day to put things right again. April 8-May 2
Students graduating with a Bachelor of Fine Arts degree will have their works featured in the exhibition. See it Tuesday-Saturday, noon to 5 p.m., in UAB’s Abroms-Engel Institute for the Visual Arts. Free.

The UAB Jazz Ensemble will perform big band music from classic gems to modern masterpieces, led by Director Steven Roberts, DMA. 7:30 p.m., UAB’s Alys Stephens Center. Free.
