“In the Pocket” by fiber artist Leanna Leithauser-Lesley at UAB’s Project Space from Dec. 2-5

Senior art history students curated an exhibition at Project Space by artist Leanna Leithauser-Lesley, who celebrates the legacies of blues musicians and the history of needlepoint.

InThePocket2Works by fiber artist Leanna Leithauser-Lesley will be on exhibition at the University of Alabama at Birmingham’s Project Space from Dec. 2-5.

Using needlepoint as her medium, Leithauser-Lesley creates portraits of jazz and blues musicians to celebrate their legacies as well as the history and technique of needlepoint. The exhibition, titled “In the Pocket,” is presented by the College of Arts and Sciences’ Department of Art and Art History. It is organized by senior art history capstone students Caity Buford, Julia Owen and Audrey Sokol.

Exhibition hours are 2-6 p.m. each day Dec. 2-5. Student-led exhibition tours are available at 5 p.m. Monday, Dec. 2, with Owen and Thursday, Dec. 5, with Sokol.  

UAB DAAH Project Space is located on the first floor of the Humanities Building, 900 13th St. South.
