Presented by the College of Arts and Sciences’ Department of Music, the camp will offer area students a comprehensive musical experience in the Magic City.

The week of music-making opportunities includes a full band experience, small ensemble participation, and training in music theory, literature, conducting, music technology and jazz improvisation. All students will take part in sessions specializing on their instrument; professional musicians on each instrument will lead classes in musical techniques and performance practices and assist students in improving sectional tone quality, pitch, articulation and balance issues. In addition, students will have the opportunity to study privately with members of the UAB Department of Music faculty.

Students will audition for placement upon arrival. Campers will rehearse daily in preparation for a performance for family and friends at the close of the camp sessions.

Camp hours are 2-4 p.m. Sunday, June 12; and 9 a.m.-5 p.m. June 13-17. The finale concert will take place at 11 a.m. Saturday, June 18, in UAB’s Alys Stephens Performing Arts Center.
