Homecoming Week 2023 for the University of Alabama at Birmingham will be Oct. 29-Nov. 4, with the theme “Y2Blaze.”
The student-selected theme, “Y2Blaze,” is a throwback to the year 2000 and the early “aughts,” filled with a retro nostalgic vibe.
Highlights of UAB Homecoming Week include the new Blazer Build It competition — a revamp of the traditional building-decoration contest — Tuesday, Oct. 31.
UAB’s most unique tradition, the Gurney Derby, will be at noon Wednesday, Nov. 1. Teams will dress up in costumes and race a gurney down the road. Due to construction, this year’s Gurney Derby will again take place on 10th Avenue South, between the Alys Stephens Performing Arts Center and 10th Street South.
Uncork Education, the National Alumni Society’s annual event in support of student scholarships at UAB, is now part of Homecoming Week and set for Thursday, Nov. 2, at the Alumni House. The 15th annual Uncork Education event will feature live and silent auctions and Blazer Plinko. Tickets are $60 and include wine and beer tasting, entertainment, heavy hors d’oeuvres, and dessert. Register online.
UAB Disability Support Services will host wheelchair flag football at URec at 5 p.m. Thursday, Nov. 2, with UAB taking on the Lakeshore Foundation at center court.
The UAB Homecoming Parade will be at noon Friday, Nov. 3. The parade starts on 14th Street South, travels down 10th Avenue South to 18th Street South, then left onto University Boulevard and back to 14th Street South.
UAB Football will host its annual Homecoming game, against Florida Atlantic, at 2 p.m. Nov. 4 at Protective Stadium. Purchase tickets online. Season tickets for the 2023 UAB Football season are available starting at $99. Season tickets feature all six home games during UAB’s inaugural season in the American Athletic Conference and are the most cost-effective way to attend games.
