The American Advertising Federation of Birmingham awarded top prizes to fourThe American Advertising Federation ADDY Awards are the advertising industry’s largest and most representative competition, attracting more than 40,000 entries nationally every year in local AAF Club competitions. The mission of the American Advertising Awards competition is to recognize and reward the creative spirit of excellence in the art of advertising.
The 2024 AAF Birmingham ADDY Awards were held March 1 at The Theodore. The winning students, in the College of Arts and Sciences’ Department of Art and Art History, were led by Doug Barrett, associate professor of graphic design, and Ryan Meyer, assistant professor of digital media and graphic design.
- Rachel Doyle, of Vestavia Hills, Alabama, was awarded a Gold Student ADDY in the Stationery Package – Single category and Student Best in Show for her House of Bread bread clip business cards. Doyle, in the UAB Honors College Personalized Path, will graduate April 27 with a Bachelor of Fine Arts degree with a focus of study in graphic design.
- Pelatiah “I$H” Morgan, of Sipsey, Alabama, was awarded two Gold Student ADDYs, one in the Packaging category for his project Jasmine Hills Organic Tea and the second in the Illustration category for poster design. Morgan is an art studio major with a focus of study in graphic design and will graduate April 27.
- Abby Henderson of Gadsden, Alabama, won a Gold Student ADDY in the Book Design category for her Everything About Pesto zine, an exploration of the history of pesto through text and illustration with personal touches such as her mom’s personal recipe, written in her handwriting. Henderson will graduate April 27 with a Bachelor of Fine Arts degree, with a focus of study in graphic design and a minor in art history.

- Ala Fedorova, a returning student, won a Gold Student ADDY in the Packaging category for her wine bottle label inspired by the work of classical artists and designers, specifically, El Lissitzky.
