Graphic saying "UAB Give as One"

On Thursday, April 3, and Friday, April 4, supporters of the University of Alabama at Birmingham can make an impact on the lives of students, patients and the city of Birmingham. Give As One is a collaboration fundraising event among UAB, UAB Medicine and the Marnix E. Heersink School of Medicine.

“Give As One provides a unique opportunity for everyone to contribute to essential projects that directly benefit each school and unit within the UAB community,” said Clay Shannon, director of Annual Giving at UAB. “On April 3 and April 4, join UAB students, alumni, faculty and friends as we come together to Give As One. Your support fuels UAB’s growing impact and advances our mission.”

Over the 48-hour period, 14 UAB projects will be open to receive contributions that can have a lasting impact on education, research and community service. The following initiatives are a few examples of giving opportunities during this year’s event:

  • The Birmingham Robotics Initiative has established and mentored robotics teams at three local high schools. It was founded by current UAB School of Engineering students who want to spread their love for robotics to the next generation.
  • UAB AmeriCorp VISTA is a yearlong service and leadership program empowering students to create sustainable solutions to environmental and health inequities within Birmingham and rural communities. Since 2014, AmeriCorps Volunteers in Service to America connects talented, passionate Blazers to create and enhance anti-poverty programs. Over time, VISTA continues to grow, expand and address community disparities related to food security, public health and environmental stability. In 2022, 90 VISTAs dedicated time in over 15 sites servicing 12 Alabama counties.
  • Bundles of Hope collaborates with numerous programs across the UAB campus. Through this partnership, students, patients and employees receive diapers and wipes each month for their children during times of need. In 2024, Bundles of Hope provided 563,000 diapers to members of the UAB community.
  • The NICU Developmental Play Boxes provide developmentally appropriate toys to NICU babies, giving them the stimulation and comfort they need during a crucial stage of growth. These carefully chosen toys help promote cognitive, sensory and motor skills, ensuring that even in a medical setting, babies can reach important milestones. More than just playthings, these toys offer hope, joy and a sense of normalcy to both infants and their families during challenging times. This program can bring smiles, ease stress and promote development play skills for the tiniest patients at UAB.
