Students doing social justice advocacy work on college campuses are invited to a free, virtual social justice conference Feb. 12-13.
Now in its fifth year, the annual Organized Radical Collegiate Activism was formerly known as the Social Justice Conference. It is presented by the Student and Multicultural Diversity Programs’ Social Justice Advocacy Council at the University of Alabama at Birmingham.
Through this online conference, students will have an opportunity to share and present on advocacy work with their peers across the nation, in sessions that are accessible to anyone from first-time attendees to regular activists. Participants will discuss what they have done to tackle social justice issues on their campuses. Students from different campuses will share their experiences, work through session presentations such as workshops and panels, and then translate what they learn to their own campus and community. This year’s theme is #NotAMomentButAMovement, and presenters will continue to explore and address the challenges and advantages of activism on campus. Students will leave inspired to create change on their campus and ignite inclusivity.
All current undergraduate, graduate and professional students are eligible to register and attend. More information about the conference can be found online.
The Social Justice Advocacy Council aims to celebrate diversity of identity, broaden cultural understanding, encourage unity, empower marginalized and underrepresented groups, educate about identity-related issues, and promote intercultural interactions between all communities of people at UAB.
