Online programs at UAB ranked among the country’s best, according to U.S. News rankings

Online programs across numerous UAB schools and departments continue to excel year after year, according to U.S. News rankings.

Five University of Alabama at Birmingham online graduate programs improved their national rankings, and the institution’s online bachelor’s program ranked in the top 30 nationwide, in the 2022 U.S. News & World Report Best Online Programs rankings released today.

UAB’s undergraduate online bachelor degrees ranked No. 29 in the country, keeping its spot as the best online program in Alabama. The online bachelor’s rankings are based on expert opinion about program quality and statistical indicators that measure the quality of a school’s faculty, research and students.

Furthermore, Collat School of Business’s Master of Science degree in Management Information Systems has claimed UAB’s first top-10 rank ever for any UAB online program at No. 9, up three spots from 2021. 

Two UAB programs were listed under specialty rankings based on expert opinions, with UAB’s online Bachelor Psychology program ranking No. 25 and online Bachelor Business ranking No. 40, respectively. 

“Having such a variety of UAB online programs and degrees ranked among the nation’s best by U.S. News is a testament to the world-class education we aim to provide both to students on our campus and to those pursuing higher education virtually,” said UAB Provost Pam Benoit. “These rankings are reflective of expert opinions, faculty credentials, engagement, technology and service, among other points, and seeing UAB grow in so many areas speak volumes about the quality of our offerings to students on both the bachelor’s and master’s degrees.” 

Highly ranked for veterans 

U.S. News & World Report highlights the best programs for veterans across all their surveys, with rankings determined based on answers from the main online survey.  

UAB continues to see high rankings in veteran programs, including No. 5 for the Master of Science degree in Management Information Systems, No. 18 for online bachelor programs and No. 34 for its online MBA program, up from No. 40 just last year.

“To have such strong graduate degrees noted among some of the best online programs in the country is reflective of UAB’s dynamic approach to higher education” said UAB Graduate School Interim Dean Lisa Schwiebert, Ph.D. “For students to be able to access online degrees from UAB regardless of where they are located is something we take great pride in and hope to continue to expand in the years to come. The pandemic has changed the education landscape and online education must now continue to be an accessible option."
