Sidharth Kumar, Ph.D., assistant professor at University of Alabama at Birmingham College of Arts and SciencesDepartment of Computer Science, has been awarded a $264,755 grant from the National Science Foundation.

With the grant, Kumar will develop cyberinfrastructure for the exascale supercomputer Aurora, hosted at Argonne National Laboratory

“This grant will allow me to work with the lab on more cutting-edge research problems such as developing new algorithms for scaling key relational algebra to supercomputers,” Kumar said.

Kumar will develop cyberinfrastructure enabling users to perform scalable declarative analysis, which will positively impact several disciplines, ranging from graph mining to inference applications from the medical domain. Kumar looks to focus on enriching student experience and growth using this grant, exposing them to a world-class supercomputing facility.

“Providing students hands-on experience with the supercomputer and leading high-performance computing scientists will significantly enhance their learning and the overall academic experience,” he said.
