Join “The Blazer Tour” with the University of Alabama at Birmingham for Homecoming Week 2024, from Oct. 27-Nov. 2.
Highlights of UAB Homecoming Week will include the Gurney Derby, the UAB Homecoming Parade, UAB Football vs. Tulsa, and the Mr. and Ms. UAB Scholarship Competition.
Student activities will include Crafternoon: Blazer Tour Friendship Bracelets, Blaze the Night Block Party, the Green and Gold Games, the Homecoming Carnival, Blazer Showdown, Blazer Spirit Student Tailgate, and much more.
Homecoming activities are hosted by the Blazer Spirit Council, UAB National Alumni Society, UAB Athletics, Office of Student Involvement and Leadership, and others. For a full list of Homecoming activities, visit calendar.uab.edu/homecoming.
UAB Disability Support Services will host the 10th annual wheelchair flag football game at URec at 5 p.m. Monday, Oct. 28, with UAB taking on the Lakeshore Foundation.
The week’s biggest spirit decoration competition, Blazer Build It — a revamp of the traditional building-decoration contest now in its second year — will be Tuesday, Oct. 29.
Student teams will dress in costumes and race a gurney down the road for UAB’s most fun — and unique — tradition, the Gurney Derby, at noon Wednesday, Oct. 30. The Gurney Derby will take place at 1150 10th Avenue South, near the Alys Stephens Performing Arts Center.
The UAB Homecoming Parade will be at noon Friday, Nov. 2. The parade starts on 14th Street South, travels down 10th Avenue South to 18th Street South, then turns left onto University Boulevard and back to 14th Street South.
UAB Football will host its annual Homecoming game, this year against Tulsa, at Protective Stadium on Saturday, Nov. 2; time to be announced. Purchase tickets online. Call the UAB Athletics Ticket Office at 205-975-8221.
The UAB Alumni Tailgate, featuring food, drinks and live entertainment, will be on the rooftop of Uptown Cantina. Single game Alumni Tailgate passes for the UAB vs. Tulsa game are available for $25 through Friday, Nov. 1; read more and purchase online. Opens 2.5 hours prior to kickoff and closes 30 minutes before game time. A limited number of passes may be purchased for $30 on game day depending on availability; visit the NAS between Uptown Cantina and Texas de Brazil. Tailgate passes do not include a game ticket or parking.
This year The Marching Blazers celebrate 30 years. For the halftime show alumni are invited to join in for Marching Blazers Alumni Band Day and perform selections from the archives including “Liberty Fanfare,” “Birdland,” “Bohemian Rhapsody” and “Thriller.” Read more about the band.
