Run, roll or stroll and raise money for veterans Nov. 9 in the UAB Veterans Day 5K

The 5K benefits the UAB Veteran Relief Fund, which aids veteran and dependent students with emergency funds for housing, books, medical care and more.

Veterans 5k Run 2024 Digital Signage 1 0dcc9a87653ba9a218ff90974282f595Honor those in the community who have served and join the Veterans Day 5K at the University of Alabama at Birmingham on Saturday, Nov. 9.

The 5K is presented by UAB Student Affairs and Veterans Services to support veteran and active-duty students. All the money raised in the race directly benefits the UAB Veteran Relief Fund, an award that aids veteran and dependent students who may need emergency help with housing, health care, textbooks and other necessities students need in order to be successful.

The race is set for 8 a.m. in a new location at Railroad Park, 1600 First Ave. South, Birmingham, AL 35233. See the race route online.

Runners, walkers, ruckers, strollers and wheelchair racers are all welcome, says Veterans Services Director Walter Stewart III. Attendees are encouraged to participate their own way: run, stroll, wheel or jog.

UAB Veterans Services would like the community to join them in celebrating the 106th anniversary of Armistice Day, now known as Veterans Day. The tradition began in Birmingham, Alabama, in 1947, and UAB Veterans Services is proud to continue it.

“Come out and show your support for veterans and UAB’s student veteran community,” Stewart said. “Together we can make a lasting impact.”

Registration is currently open. Registration until Nov. 9 ranges from $15 for the One Mile Fun Run, $20 for students and $30 for veterans to $40 for the public. Sign up online.

All Veterans Day 5K participants will receive a packet with a T-shirt and a finisher medal.

Advance race packet pickup will be Monday, Nov. 4, through Thursday, Nov. 7, from 9 a.m.-4 p.m., in the UAB Hill Student Center, Suite 313, 1400 University Blvd., Birmingham, AL 35233.

Day-of-race registration and packet pickup will begin at 7 a.m. on race day.

This race will be run with chipped bibs. The results will be available after the race is complete, with timing by The Right Time.
