Two members of UAB's Tri-Blazers triathlon team completed the Ironman Triathlon in Louisville, Ky., on Aug. 29, 2010.
Kevin Pawlik, Ph.D., an assistant professor of biochemistry and molecular genetics, completed the 140.6 mile course in 13 hours and 24 minutes. Evan Thomas, an M.D./Ph.D. student, finished the course in 13 hours and 14 minutes. Both had competed in half-triathlons but this was their first full race.
A triathlon consists of a 2.4-mile swim, a 112-mile bike ride and a 26.2-mile run. Thomas is the president of the UAB Tri-Blazers, which formed in 2009.
