The UAB School of Optometry held its White Coat Ceremony for the Class of 2015 on Aug. 27, 2012, at the Hill University Center Alumni Auditorium, followed by a reception to honor the students.
In the presence of family, friends, faculty and staff, 43 second-year students were presented with white coats, provided by the Alabama Optometric Association. In addition, each student received a lapel pin featuring the school seal as a gift from the School of Optometry.
The second-year students are beginning their clinical training in the optometry professional program. The students recited the Intern’s Pledge to practice the art and science of optometry faithfully and conscientiously and to uphold and honorably promote by example and action the highest standards, ethics, and ideals of the optometric profession.
The white coat is one of health care’s most important symbols, signifying that a doctor’s responsibility is not only to treat patients, but to also care for those patients’ well-being.
