The University of Alabama at Birmingham Collat School of Business is opening its UAB in China study-abroad experience to anyone interested in observing the world’s largest emerging market first hand. The trip, scheduled for May 13-24, 2013, includes visits to Beijing, Shanghai, Hangzhou and Suzhou. Students will receive hands-on knowledge of China’s business and cultural environment through direct interaction with businesses and universities. The trip also will include cultural activities and the opportunity to communicate with Chinese college students.
Simon Sheng, Ph.D., associate professor in the School of Business, is the trip’s faculty leader. Sheng received his B.S. from China’s Tsinghua University and has authored several papers on business and culture in the country. His core research is on emerging economies with a focus on pricing, market channels, institutional theory and marketing issues.
Students must enroll in BUS 490: Business & Culture in China to participate. They will receive a total of three credit hours, which may be used to satisfy international business major and minor requirements or be used as a general elective for other majors at UAB. The trip, open to all interested UAB students, is a collaboration between the School of Business and the UAB Office for Study Away.
