Public health nutritionists and researchers, dietitians and others who are interested in promoting obesity prevention among children and adolescents are invited to attend Enhancing the Public Health Nutrition Workforce: Strategies to Promote Healthy Diets and Physically Active Lifestyles Conference. This one-day conference will be held 8:30 a.m.-2 p.m. on Friday, June 7, 2013, at Vulcan Park and Museum, 1701 Valley View Dr.
The conference will address model population/system-based interventions and direct client programs and services that are being implemented throughout the United States. Ways to engage youth in healthy activities will be discussed, as well as public health initiatives and partnerships that can be implemented to promote wellness in this population.
Lisa McCormick, Dr.P.H., director of the Alabama Public Health Training Center at UAB and Bonnie Spear, Ph.D., R.D., Professor in the UAB Department of Pediatrics, are among the conference speakers. The conference is sponsored by the Alabama Public Health Training Center, the UAB Nutrition Obesity Research Center, the UAB Maternal and Child Health Nutrition Training Program and the Alabama MCH Leadership Network.
Four hours of continuing education credits will be offered to nurses, social workers and dieticians. The conference is free of charge, and lunch will be provided. Registration is required at www.alphtc.org/nutritionconference2013.
