The program also includes interactive health education displays and promotional materials. A free bag of fruit will be given to the first 50 bus riders at the event.
This year’s Food Day activities are sponsored by the Minority Health and Health Disparities Research Center; UAB Division of Preventive Medicine; Barber’s Dairy; Place Matters for Health in Jefferson County, Alabama; Alabama Farmers Market; East Lake Farmers Market; HealthMed; and the City of Birmingham.
Food Day, a national campaign established by the Center for Science in the Public Interest, is meant to encourage people to make positive changes to their diets and for communities to solve food-related problems. The day champions a vision of food that is healthy and affordable and is produced with care for the environment, farm animals, and the people who grow, harvest and serve it.
