American journalist and political commentator Juan Williams will deliver a free public lecture at the University of Alabama at Birmingham at 6 p.m. Jan. 27, 2011, during Community Week, the school’s annual celebration of campus diversity. The event will take place at the Hill University Center Alumni Auditorium, 1400 University Blvd. It is sponsored by the UAB Office for Equity & Diversity and Student Involvement.

Williams is a political analyst for Fox Television and a regular panelist for “Fox News Sunday.” He is known for igniting debate with his provocative analysis of black leadership and also giving his special brand of commentary on America’s culture and politics.
The former host of National Public Radio’s “Talk of The Nation” has penned many award-winning columns and editorials for The Washington Post and authored six books, including the critically acclaimed “Eyes on the Prize.”
Community Week challenges ideas related to diversity and spotlights varying campus cultures through lectures, films, musical performances and an international bazaar. Past speakers have included best-selling author, sociologist and entertainer Bertice Berry, Ph.D.; Carlos E. Cortés, the creative and cultural adviser for Nickelodeon’s award winning children’s television series “Dora the Explorer” and “Go, Diego, Go!”; and former Rep. Artur Davis.
