Join the conversation hosted by University of Alabama at Birmingham Libraries with a panel discussion celebrating UAB diversity at 4 p.m. Friday, Jan. 30. The event is part of “A Celebration of UAB Diversity” during UAB Community Week, Jan. 26-31.
“Birmingham, Continuing the Discussion: Our Past and Present through the Eyes of UAB Alumni and Faculty” will take place at The Edge of Chaos, on the fourth floor in Lister Hill Library, 1700 University Blvd. For parking information, call 205-934-6360.
Panel members will include educator and activist Odessa Woolfolk, UAB alumnus and Tuscaloosa Mayor Walt Maddox, and UAB alumna Constance Smith Hendricks, Ph.D., R.N., FAAN, Auburn University nursing professor and advocate for minority and rural health issues. The moderator will be George Munchus, III, Ph.D., UAB Collat School of Business.
Community Week events for 2015 include a Disability Support Services wheelchair flag football game, with Lakeshore Foundation’s team against UAB students and employees, at 6 p.m. Tuesday, Jan. 27, in the Campus Rec Center.
The 14th annual UAB International Bazaar is set for 11 a.m.-6 p.m. Jan. 28, in the Campus Rec Center. The UAB Multicultural Council and Student Multicultural and Diversity Programs will present the bazaar which will feature activities including drum-making, salsa dance lessons, henna art, martial arts and belly dance demonstrations, and a finale concert by Pasofino Social Club at 5 p.m. A vast variety of culturally inspired foods will be available.
