UAB Hospital’s Addiction Recovery Unit, along with a number of local agencies, will host a recovery walk as part of National Recovery Month, promoting the belief that behavioral health is essential to health, prevention works, treatment is effective, and people recover from mental and/or substance use disorders.
Registration for the awareness and celebration of recovery event will begin at 9 a.m., with the walk beginning at 10 a.m., Saturday, Sept. 10, at the UAB mini park, University Boulevard at 14th Street South.
Every September, the Substance Abuse and Mental Health Services Administration within the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services sponsors National Recovery Month to increase awareness of behavioral health conditions.
The Birmingham Recovery Walk will feature bands, food, awareness and education materials, and addiction recovery unit staff to answer questions. The event is free to anyone in recovery, or touched in any way by addiction.
