A diplomate of the American Board of Pediatric Dentistry, Mitchell is director of the UAB Civitan Sparks Dental Clinic, the only clinic in Alabama dedicated to the oral health of the intellectually and developmentally disabled population. He is passionate about helping this population overcome the barriers they face accessing quality dental care.
He has studied oral bacterial transmission in children with severe early childhood caries and has served as principal investigator for an HRSA-funded predoctoral training grant from 2017 to 2022 that allowed dental students to engage with rural and community-based dental clinics.
