Heersink School of Medicine Department of Anesthesiology and Perioperative MedicineDuring the last 10 years, Matalon and his collaborators have been funded by NIEHS through the CounterACT Program to investigate the basic mechanisms by which halogen gases — such as chlorine — damage the lungs and systemic organs. Based on their research, Matalon and his team have developed countermeasures which, when administered post exposure, decrease mortality and morbidity.
