Tyson serves as the faculty advisor for UAB’s Zeta Chapter of Chi Sigma Iota, an honor society for students, counselors and counselor educators.

The Zeta Chapter was selected to receive the Chi Sigma Iota Outstanding Chapter award.

“This national award is a magnificent honor for our chapter and reflects the hard work of our outstanding chapter members,” said Kristen Woods, 2014-2015 Zeta Chapter president. “The members of the 2014-2015 Zeta board were dedicated to our mission goals and worked relentlessly on educational opportunities, service and scholarships during the year.”

Woods also credits the chapter’s success throughout the year to great support from UAB faculty and administration, including Tyson’s unyielding support, leadership and encouragement.

Chi Sigma Iota is an international honor society for students, counselors and counselor educators that values academic and professional excellence in counseling. Its mission is to promote scholarship, research, professionalism, leadership, advocacy and excellence in counseling, and to recognize high attainment in the pursuit of academic and clinical excellence in the profession of counseling.

The Zeta Chapter was presented with both awards March 13 at the American Counseling Association Conference in Orlando, Fla.
