University of Alabama at Birmingham Department of Ophthalmology, has been selected to serve on the Scientific Advisory Panel of Research to Prevent Blindness.
Cynthia Owsley, Ph.D., the Nathan E. Miles Chair of Ophthalmology and Vice Chair of Research Administration in theAs a member of the panel, Owsley will be responsible for making recommendations regarding grant funding to the Research to Prevent Blindness Board of Trustees. Owsley’s commitment and knowledge in the areas of age-related macular degeneration, vision and aging, eye epidemiology, and health services research make her a valuable asset to the panel.
“I am honored to participate on the Research to Prevent Blindness’ Scientific Advisory Panel, which provides advice and guidance in the awarding of millions of dollars in grants in support of eye research,” Owsley said. “I look forward to working with the members of the committee as well as the Research to Prevent Blindness Board of Trustees and staff.”
Research to Prevent Blindness is the leading voluntary health organization supporting eye research directed at the prevention, treatment and eradication of diseases that threaten vision by developing treatments, preventatives and cures.
In her research at UAB, Owsley focuses on aging-related eye diseases and vision impairment. Her research program uses many research techniques, including psychophysical methods, epidemiology, clinical trials and health services research.
