Photography: Andrea MabryThe University of Alabama at Birmingham and Team No Brakes will host the Inaugural Rare Disease Fun Run on March 1 at Railroad Park. The free event begins at 8 a.m. and includes a 5K and 1-mile fun run.

The race occurs in conjunction with the 12th Annual Rare Disease Symposium hosted by UAB, Children’s of Alabama and Alabama Rare. The race and symposium are a chance for those in the rare disease community to connect as well as raise awareness for the UAB Undiagnosed Diseases Program and other resources.

The UAB Live HealthSmart Alabama Mobile Market will be available for participants and community members. The mobile market provides healthy, fresh and affordable food to neighborhoods with limited access to traditional grocery stores. Additionally, community members can donate blood through the American Red Cross mobile unit.
