University of Alabama at Birmingham Department of Pediatrics as the director of the Division of Developmental and Behavioral Pediatrics.
Laura McGuinn, M.D., has joined theMcGuinn will be the inaugural Thomas H. Lowder Endowed Chair in Developmental and Behavioral Pediatrics and also will be the new clinical director of the Civitan-Sparks Clinics.
UAB’s Division of Developmental and Behavioral Pediatrics provides care for individuals at risk for developmental and behavioral conditions, including autism spectrum disorder, intellectual disabilities, learning disabilities, behavioral problems and prematurity, among other areas.
“I’m looking forward to joining the UAB team and helping children and families across Alabama and the Southeast with development and behavioral needs,” McGuinn said. “We have a tremendous division in place here at UAB, and I’m eager to continue to offer critical and key care to patients who need it most.”
McGuinn comes to UAB from the University of Oklahoma. She earned her medical degree from the University of Texas Medical Branch in Galveston, Texas, where she completed her residency training as ambulatory chief resident. McGuinn completed her fellowship in developmental and behavioral pediatrics at the Johns Hopkins Hospital in Baltimore, Maryland, and is certified by the American Board of Pediatrics as a subspecialty fellow in both neurodevelopmental disabilities and developmental and behavioral pediatrics.
