(Photo by: Steve Wood)Since 2016, UAB Callahan Eye Hospital and Clinics has served residents in the Altadena community of the Birmingham Metro area at its Cahaba River Road location. Now with the outright purchase of the facility, physicians will continue to serve for years to come.
The purchase of the facility was recently approved by the University of Alabama System Board of Trustees.
The location serves as a pediatric eye care hub and offers the same quality vision care that Callahan Eye Hospital has provided on the UAB campus for more than 50 years, with services including:
- Adult and pediatric ophthalmology and optometry
- Eye exams
- Eyeglasses and contact lenses
- Cataract evaluations
- Cornea treatment
- Glaucoma screenings
- Diagnostic imaging
It also houses an optical store, featuring a wide selection of designer eyeglasses and sunglasses from brands such as Ray-Ban, Coach, Maui Jim, Tom Ford, Badgley Mischka, Kate Spade, Miraflex, Costa Del Mar and more.

The clinic provides patients with convenient, timely access to UAB ophthalmologists and optometrists, state-of-the-art technologies, and groundbreaking research, and is the only clinic of its kind in the 459-corridor area.
