Northwest Regional Health and UAB Medicine have partnered to open a new UAB surgery clinic to serve patients in Northwest Alabama. The newly renovated clinic will be located at 200 Carraway Drive, Suite 2, in Winfield.
The UAB surgery clinic will be led by Greg Kennedy, M.D., Ph.D., the John H. Blue Chair of General Surgery and the director of the Division of Gastrointestinal Surgery at the University of Alabama in Birmingham Heersink School of Medicine. He graduated from the University of Washington School of Medicine and received his Ph.D. in cancer biology from the University of Wisconsin, where he also completed his general surgery training. He completed a fellowship in colon and rectal surgery at the Mayo Clinic in Rochester, Minnesota.
“We are excited to be expanding services here at Northwest Regional Health by opening this UAB surgery clinic,” Kennedy said.
Kennedy will be seeing patients at the Winfield clinic and also performing surgeries at Northwest Regional Health. UAB is also adding surgeon Joseph Walker, M.D., who will see patients at both facilities. Walker earned his medical degree at UAB and completed residency training at Brookwood Baptist Health.
“The UAB surgery clinic is another example of how UAB and Northwest Regional Health are working together to improve health care in our region,” said Michael Windham, CEO of Northwest Regional Health. “We are excited to welcome Dr. Kennedy to our community and medical staff.”
The UAB surgery clinic will open Aug. 12 and is already accepting appointments. To schedule an appointment or for more information, please call 205-487-7661.
Northwest Regional Health became a member of the UAB Health System in January.
