T. Michael Harrington, M.D., professor and chair of the UAB Department of Family and Community Medicine, has been elected president of the Medical Association of the State of Alabama (MASA) for 2012-13.
Harrington has served MASA in a variety of roles, including vice president (2004-05) and secretary-treasurer (2007-10), and as a member of the ad hoc committee on Collaborative Practice (2008-09). He also has served on the Council on Medical Education.
After graduating from the University of Virginia School of Medicine, Harrington completed postgraduate training at the Naval Aerospace and Regional Medical Center in Pensacola, Fla.
He also is a past president of the Jefferson County Medical Society.
Founded in 1847, MASA is the oldest statewide medical organization in Alabama, existing to serve, lead and unite physicians in promoting the highest quality of health care for the people of Alabama through advocacy, information and education.
