The UAB Comprehensive Cancer Center Patient and Family Resource Center provides answers about cancer, including information about prevention, early detection, disease-specific cancers, treatments, side effects, clinical trials, complementary therapies, stress management, fatigue, spirituality, grief, financial and employment support, emotional care, children’s concerns, and end-of-life care.
The facility, located in the newly renovated Wallace Tumor Institute, offers free computer access and personal assistance for services.
“Our intention is not only to provide a comfortable place for our patients to get the help they need, but also to support our clinicians in their efforts to treat their patients,” said Teri Hoenemeyer, director of education and support services at the Cancer Center.
The programs stress the importance of nutrition, exercise and incorporating integrative medicine therapies like mindful meditation, restorative yoga and art therapy into treatment plans.
